2022 was an extraordinary year, we hired 5 new teachers and enrolled 150 new students in Kathmandu, Nepal. Our students are already winning at art competitions, making our hard work all worth while.
CREATE is a 4 year comprehensive arts, crafts, music and dance program, aiming at fostering children's creativity and cognitive skills. From portrait drawing to dance and music, we aim at enhancing various aspects of children's creativity and providing them with a variety of skills. Additionally, as we work closely with the local artisanal community, we strive at strengthening the local bonds and gaining the trust and support to expand our program.
We are dedicated to serving the most underprivileged children and we want to impact the most vulnerable communities. Orphanages are poorly funded and these are the children at great disadvantage. They lack support and mentorship.
Over 80% of our students do not have parents, therefore most lack role models and mentors. Our teachers are all local, usually from very modest upbringing themselves and often become great inspiration to our students.
Our teachers are all local and they all commute to the orphanages spread out all over Port-au-Prince and Mexico City using local transportation. Our goal is to serve the most vulnerable children and the only way to reach these children is to go to them since orphanages are underfunded and mostly struggling to make ends meet.
We believe that the fastest way to end poverty is by investing in children's education. CREATE is meant to be long term and sustainable program, run by local managers and teachers. We employ young ambitious people, who then undergo training by local professionals and then go back to the field and share their knowledge with our students.
Poverty in Haiti is heartbreaking and unfair. Severe lack of access to education creates the cycle of poverty for generations. The Haitian people have so much potential but oftentimes lack the resources to fulfill it, so we decided to do something about it.
Only 1 in 10,000 Haitians have access to a modern doctor. 70% lack access to running water and sanitary facilities. And only 11% have electricity.
Haiti has an unemployment rate of over 40%. Of those who do have jobs, more than 2/3 are employed “informally,” meaning they are selling their goods in the market or on the streets.
Data shows that five in 10 children live in poverty in the country, while among Indigenous children, the rate goes up to eight in 10, according to a report by the National Council of Social Development Policy Evaluation.
Using the most recent available data (2017) the report reveals that 52.3 percent of children over 11 years old live under the poverty line, out of which 9.7 percent live in extreme poverty. This means that 20.7 million children and teenagers (about a sixth of the country's total population) live in poverty in Mexico.
